Cashmere has a reputation for being precious. We'd push back on that.
Cashmere is durable. It's resilient. It improves with wear. But like any natural fibre, it rewards a little care — and punishes neglect.
Here's how to look after your Sara Dugar pieces so they last for years, not seasons.
Washing
Wash gently, and only when needed. Cashmere doesn't need to be washed after every wear — airing it out between wears is usually enough.
When you do wash: use cold water and a mild wool or cashmere detergent. Hand wash if possible, or use a delicate machine cycle in a mesh laundry bag. Do not twist or wring the fabric. Press out excess water gently, then lay flat to dry on a clean towel away from direct heat or sunlight.
Storage
Store folded, never hanging. Hanging cashmere causes it to stretch and lose its shape over time. In warmer months, store in a breathable cotton bag with a cedar block to deter moths.
Pilling
Pilling is natural with soft fibres — it's not a sign of poor quality. It happens where the fabric experiences friction (under the arms, at the cuffs). Remove pills gently with a cashmere comb or fabric shaver. Do this regularly and your piece will look as good as new.
The Longer View
We design our pieces to be kept.
